Can I put a 16.5" bull barrel on a 10/22. I've found a great deal on one and I'm wondering if it is legal. Any help would be great. Thanks, Justin..

legality

As long as it makes the 26" overall length it should not matter. I have one on one of my 10/22's and it is awesome. Buy it you won't regret it. Later.

Factory barrel, yes. Butler Creek sells a 16.5 carbon fiber tapered barrel, and Ruger now has a factory 16.5". I also believe clarke makes a 16" heavy as well. As long as it's factory, and is above 26" OAL, it's OK.

other makers of 16.5" barrels include TACTICAL SOLOUTIONS and GREEN MOUNTAIN.

I have a tactical soloutions barrel on order for my grouse / hunting rifle because it has a proper .22 chamber..... not a match or netz chamber so I can use stingers and all other hunting type ammo.

I also have one rifle with a green mountain 20" heavy barrel and while it is nice it is not something you want to pack around the gopher patch.

P&D has a Magnum Research Lite carbon barrel in stock in edmonton also..... looks like a sweet barrel and good reviews of it.

Actually, according to a gun magazine articleI read some time back-the maximum velocity for a 22LR was reached in a 16''barrel-and decreased thereafter due to friction. They had started out with a 26''barrel ,and checked velocities each time they cut it back 2''.The theory was 16'' was the point maximum pressure developed

That is interesting. Did they say if the test was conducted in a bolt or a semi-auto? With any ammo?
