My tactical 870 is chambered for 3" and 2 3/4" shells, but wasn't sure if "magnum" while referring to shotgun shells had the same meaning as "magnum" while referring to pistol rounds. From the little research I've done, it appears that as long as my shotgun is chambered for this size shell, that it should be totally fine, but all additional input on the subject will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

have at it, anything you can buy off the shelf in 2 3/4 and 3 inch will run in your shotgun

Magnum = 3" shells
Not always; there are 2-3/4" magnum shotshells. In the world of shotguns, "magnum" means a heavier than standard shot payload. All 3" (and 3-1/2") shells are magnums, but not all magnums are 3" (or 3-1/2").
If "Magnum" printed on the barrel or the receiver (let alone the barrel AND the receiver) indicated the only guns that can safely accept magnum loads, the market for those loads would be severely limited. Agreed that, if "Magnum" is printed anywhere on the gun, you needn't worry about using magnum loads (assuming the following caveat on proof and condition).
Magnum loads are produced for a variety of chamber lengths. As long as the gun is chambered for the length of shell or longer, and the gun is nitro proofed and in good condition, it's safe for magnum loads.
