Can I see your powder and primer storage?

Most of my reloading stuff is at my fathers house. Now that we have moved farther away it's becoming a inconvenience to drive there to load. I am slowly getting moved and set up in my house and have a few ideas of what I would like but still not sure.

I first thought just a couple of wood boxes with a pad lock but then also wondered about a pair of cabinets stacked. a few other ideas have passed through my head aswell. I would just like to get a visual on some ideas before I commit to a project.

So if anybody is willing to share a photo of how they store there stuff that would be great.

Thanks

Jason

I bought a number of Plano toolbox's from Home Depot. There is not a single piece of metal on them. I put the appropriate stickers on them and put a lock on the front. Seems to meet the storage criteria. Primers in two of them and powder in the other three. You won't get a keg in there but when I buy in 8 or 10 lb I split it into 1lb containers anyhow.

My concern with this is...no matter how careful you are in following as far as you know the "letter of the Law" too many laws are vague. Being as open to interpretation as the laws are it seems charges still happen to those trying to obey. Posting pics of our guns, storage etc is just asking to be inspected and found guilty of an infraction, even when you have done your best.
This is part and parcel of the distrust that I feel over this whole registry/licensing issue! It costs the Police NOTHING out of their own pockets to levy a charge, legitimate or not, and us $1000's of dollars to out of a bind that we should never of been in.
Paranoid or not, and I'm usually NOT, this is where I stand. NO pics of any gun related items on here or anywhere anymore!
Seems like this has all on it's own created a danger to us, and others as some of us are even afraid to ask questions. Will we get an unwanted visit for showing that we may NOT be in complience, even though we are trying hard to be Lawful?

I still don't get the part that says the outside of the box must be labelled "EXPLOSIVES!". Are they nuts?! I have a son in my house. It's like putting a label on the box the reads, "PLAYBOY MAGAZINES INSIDE - DO NOT OPEN!" :D:D:D

I think the rule of thumb is generally to store primers, ammunition and propellant separately, in appropriately labelled cabinets or containers, and under lock and key (especially if kids are present). I use lockable toolboxes.

Of course, if storing large amounts of any of that, when setting up storage, you should consider what would happen if you had a fire.

My boxes are labelled "Explosive", which was my understanding of the rules when I set things up, although I share ninepointer's concern about what that'll mean when my boy gets a little older.

I also have some issues with labelling unconfined powder "explosive" as opposed to merely "flammable", but those are semantic.

A summary from it is that primers and ammo can be stored together, but primers and powder must be kept separate.

OP, I store my ammo and reloading supplies in screw together particle board cabinets from Home Depot/Revy/Totem. Not as heavy duty as the previously recommended 3/4" plywood boxes, but much simpler and faster to throw together. I simply added a padlock hasp to each cabinet and a combination lock from CT in order to have them locked up.

If you have the space, a set of lockable wall mounted cabinets from CT would make a nice, clean solution to the problem. Just make sure that the ammo cabinet is securely fastened, as it gets very heavy in short order.

I made mine with brass fittings and screws. 3/4" plywood box separating the primers and powder with two pieces 3/4" glued together inside the bigger box so it's like two boxes sitting side by side but really one box. No need for the danger sign only explosives but I like drama :p.....

Call me careless, but I just keep all my stuff on shelves in my man cave.

Safe? Absolutely. Meets the NRCAN regs? Nope. Your place, your choice.

I would never bother locking anything up aside from staying out of jail. My kids are trained to leave everything alone unless I am there and have been out to the range a number of times test driving an old Cooey. If they want to look at any of my guns, ammo or reloading stuff all they have to do is ask. Takes all the mystique out of it and makes everything just another object in the house.

so a tool chest wouldn't be good thing to buy?

Nothing wrong with a lockable tool chest or cabinet, I use one for some of my less used ammo when I have overflow from the main storage. As long as it is lockable, that fufills the major requirement.
