Can I set up my old Savage10FP for AICS mags?

I would like to drop my Savage 10 into a stock that takes those AICS / Magpul magazines but I don't think such a thing exists for an old short action, top bolt release rifle. Anyone aware of one?

I looked at the Atlasworx bottom metal kits so perhaps that's an option?

Absolutely! If it's a chassis you're interested in, MDT has you covered. I'm guessing if it's older, you have the shorter action screw spacing. There is a tiny adapter piece that comes with their chassis and it will accomodate both screw spacings. If it's just bottom metal you're looking for, there are likely options as well but you'll have to do some inletting.

Great, I'll have a look at those options. It is the 4.275" screw spacing. I'm not sure I want one of those chassis systems with crazy adjustment ect. It's my "quit screwing around" last week of hunting season rifle and long range toy so I would like something fairly practical.

I looked at Atlasworxs bottom metal as they have one that fits and emailed Boyd's with an inquiry as well.

The chassis doesn't have to be complicated with a bunch of adjustable gear. Fact of the matter is I have 3 of them with adjustable stocks and I don't have a single scope height that warranted having to use a cheek riser. Length of pull is a different story and depending on your height, this may be a feature you'll appreciate. The basic chassis is just that.... basic. You can make it whatever you'd like!

I'm new to this as well. Have an older savage in 223 with the long action. I am assuming this will work as well. Can some one post a couple links, still not sure what you guys are saying when you say MDT etc.!

Also I recall Magpul sold the trigger guard etc to replace the bottom metal on older rem 700s to be able to take mags. Is that an option?

Thank you

MDT is a B.C. company that makes chasis type stocks. I just called them and they said their ORYX chasis will fit my rifle or they'll make it fit, or money back. The KRG looks good but I'd rather support a Canadian company.

I tried the link thing... might work?

You won't be disappointed! Not only do they carry excellent products, their customer service is top shelf as well!

Your rifle will fit any of the Savage SA chassis systems from MDT without issue, have at it!

Currently, the only thing we don't offer is the ACC Elite, but that will likely change in the future.

Just as the devils advocate, I took that same rifle, bought an Atlasworx bottom metal, fitted it myself by building jigs for my rotor, and I was successful, It did function, but after hours of work, resources and money, I ended I buying an XRS chassis and found it was a thousand times better in every way.

The bottom metal route to me anyways, should only apply to a particular stock, like a Bell and Carlson or something of the same nature. Even then it’s hard to argue with the XRS or the Oryx or something of that nature.

By the time you’re done installing the bottom metal you’re almost at the cost of the chassis, minus the accuracy and ergonomics of the chassis.

I have a Gen 1 Savage Stealth chassis, ( black stock, factory top release action ) Will it work on bottom bolt release models?

This good stuff to know.

I like to tinker, but when a Canadian company makes a product that works and gets me shooting within an hour of the package being opened - that is a win for me.
