Can i Shoot my M14

No, you can't. You can shoot a chinese copy of an m14 though, as one is currently at your disposal; just be sure to expect the quality of a chinese copy and not an m14.

True, you can't but neither can anyone else in Canada to the best of my knowledge(real M14's are prohib. aren't they?) Other option is to drop a ton of cash on an American copy(M1A), get better finishing quality on the rifle, and end up with roughly the same accuracy as your Chinese M305. This is at least how I interpret things from what I've read on the subject on these forums(I admit my only knowledge about either is only from reading). By all accounts it seems that both are great rifles, though many seem to question the value of the M1A for the $$$ spent compared to the M305, as the M305 can be tuned to shoot as well as the M1A for much, much cheaper. Guess it depends on how much owning an American made copy means to you?

I'm calling BS, or just that this forum has a biased towards norinco and is therefore not a very good source for objective facts on the differences between chinese copy's and the real things, so your opinion is biased; purposefully or not. I personally do not own either or have ever fired either. From what I have read and from what I know of the chinese, norincos or polytechs are simply not as well made as an m1a rifle. I didn't say norinco m14's were not rifles; just that m1a's are likely made better and fire better.

And you can spout that "m1a's aren't real m14s either" bull#### all day; it doesn't change reality. If I had to guess, I would say m1a rifles are probably better made than original m14s were; therefore this argument loses any legitimacy. And this is just pure speculation, so take it with a grain of salt.

Oh we are.

"Don't own either or have fired either" + "from what I've read" + "if I had to guess" = Expert Opinion

This is pure speculation, but are you 16 years old and hoping to get your RPAL some day?

and you'd be WRONG- springfield armories( the company) has had OUT OF SPEC RECIEVER PROBLEMS parts breakage as well- there are folks on this board that have years of experiences with m1as, and used them for COMPETITION- and they're USING NORCS- what made the original m14s so good was that government specs called for everybody to play by the same rules- didn't matter whether it was trw, h&r, springfield or winchester- mof winchester had to go back and re-do theirs as they were blowing up, if memory serves- take it from somebody that HAS BOTH, the norcs are just slightly ROUGHER FINISHED, and are at least as good as a springfield armoury - ( the government one, not the company) m14- in case your're intrested, the ranking for the original goes trw, then springfield, then h&r and winchester- but ALL met the MINIMUM standards- just that the trws were just so much better than all the rest

what I read is that TRW were so superior..

The TRW were so well made that the company made more money from the bonuses for the low rejection rates and on time delivery than they did on the profits from each rifle. TRW was one of the first companies to invest in numerically controlled mills. NC mills are one step behind modern CNC machines. These units were state of they art at the time. As far as the norincos being chinese that doesn't matter a lick. Cnc machines can hold tolerances of .0005 whether they are in Bejing or Springfield Mass. And 5150 steel (what norinco uses) is the steel that everyone would use... if cost were no object. Because labor costs in China are low they can afford to use excellant steel even if it does eat HSS tools for lunch.
