Can I shoot trap at PoCo on days when the trap and skeet club isn't meeting?

I read on the PoCo website that the Trap and skeet club meet every second and last Sunday of every month. So what about other days, is the range still available for use? I was planning to head down this Saturday and hopefully buy a membership if they're selling for the coming year now, and I want to take my new shottie for a spin.

Seeing as I haven't taken the range user course yet, I imagine I wouldn't be able to shoot unless another member was present. But if there is a member there, can I shoot? Once I snag a membership and take the range user course, can I shoot at the trap range any time?

no you can only shoot trap on the dates listed on the calendar, because the trap club director needs to be present to unlock the trap houses and turn on the trap machines.

if you just want to use the rage in the trap area to shoot targets(target stands) /w your shottie its okay as long as you have a RUC (range user course)

PM me if you need any details about the trap&skeet at poco as i shoot there quite regularly...

yea i've wondered that as well because i am regularly up there early when no one is using range 3. i was curious if i could bring my own clays and one of those cheap hand throwers but i never got around to asking

I shoot at the Pitt Meadows club. We shoot every sunday and wednesdays in the summer (last wednesday was the end for wednesdays this year though). The trap range opens about 12 noon, the skeet range is open at 9am. until noon.
I joined for the first time this year, great guys and always a good turnout.

My dad ran the trap club at Poco 30 years ago and my brother and I were trap boys (made $3 a day to load the traps!:) ). At one time they had a portable trap that members could use but I haven't shot there for 25 years.....

Claybuster, the shooting area in question is in a separate area of the range, and the club does require. that members that use this unsupervised (no RO) area to gone through the RUC.

bubb, i have to look at the RUC book again, but i think your targets have to be stationary like on a target stand... you'd have to double check the manual again.

actually since the PoCo trap is only twice a week, a few of us also shoot on the off weeks at PittMeadows as well, and there are great guys at Pitt meadows, like Bob that always have great tips for us not so good shooters...

One of these days I really need to come out to POCO and Pitt Meadows to check things out.....What's the cost of joining at those clubs?

I believe it is $140 a year at PoCo. Pitt is a bit more per year as I recall (~$160) but they also have an initiation fee there that PoCo doesn't. I don't remember how much the fee was though as I decided to go to PoCo

Champion makes a really good little tire mounted thrower so that you can shoot anytime.

actually if you ARE a member at PoCo you can get an associate membership at Pitt Meadows its like $60 a year i think...

???

Wrong club dude, Pitt Meadows is a trap only club($60 per year). Your talking about Thompson Mountain Sportsman (150 per year) and no iniatation fee is you join through my shop. Yes we always have a porta trap set up on the public range that anyone can use .

I shot Pitt twice this year before I joined. $10 day fee and they told me to save the recepts and they applied them towards my membership (but I think it was $65).

I'm not 100% on trap so you may want to call, but I'm pretty sure you have to have the range user course to use any of the other ranges, and anyone with you has to have the range user course as well (no daypass, no guests). That is on top of being a member, of course. You then sign in on #7, and he'll let you know if the other ranges are free. First come, first serve, and whoever's there can stay as long as they want -although you can usually work something out.

Their reasoning is that there is no range wardens on the lower ranges, so they want to drill safety into your head one more time, as well as what you are and aren't allowed to do on those ranges. All it would take is one idiot to ruin that club for everyone forever.

According to the RUC, you can use the trap/skeet if no one else is using the lower ranges, but I remember asking John (Range warden) about this as I didn't know how to access the throwers, etc. and he mentioned that trap/skeet could only be done on the weekends specified in the calendar.

Pretty sure you need to be member and pass the RUC at a minimum. However I think members can just go when the club meets.

I'll make a note to ask him about this next time.

so, as a poco member, do i have to pay extra to shoot trap? how about a daypass holder? can s/he uses range #7 and then go to shoot trap? any additional fee?

as a poco member you do not pay extra to shoot trap/skeet, but you do have to pay for clays ... we charge $4/round for clays... (bring your own shells or buy them off the club, i forget what the price is $6/box?)

IF you are only shooting skeet/trap, you can get a cheaper day pass from the the trap/skeet club, but it's only good for trap/skeet NOT for range 7.

TRAP AND SKEET is TODAY (OCT 8), COME OUT!!!!!!!
