I searched the internet, tried to read the RCMP page on rules, and searched here for a simple answer on whether I can take my 2" snubby to the range, and my M-14, both of which are prohibited and shoot them. I have a LTATT but don't want to break any rules as I enjoy my sport. Can I ??

No, is the long answer too. As I recall, the assorted CPFO's decided they will not issue an ATT for any prohibited firearm.

AFAIK 12(6) prohibs can be taken to the range with the appropriate LTATT. Other classes of prohibs (12(2) through 12(5)) 'in theory' are subject to the same rules however I understand that the CFOs refuse to Issue ATT's for them, thus they can not be taken to the range.

Edit:
12(6) class of prohibited firearms means .25 calibre and .32 calibre Handguns, and any handgun with a barrel less than 105mm/4.14" long.

My LTATT states all Prohibited Pistols registered at my residence.

my suggestion is if you dont have a long term authorisation to transport that says so already, get one from the Canada firearms center and specifically request they include your 12(6) on it. It should say on there somewhere...

Thanks guys, my apologies for wasting your time, I actually found under Reason at the bottom of the ATT (this is a BC ATT) "Transport to and from an approved shooting club or shooting range for target practice (for restricted firearms and prohibited handguns only) I shouldn't have jumped the gun, and I should have re-read the little card they issue. So 2" snubby yes, M-14 no. Well that's half good!

Half bad. The idea of the LTATT is ridiculous. The firearm is registered to you for the purpose of target shooting, but you can't transport, because there is no permission to discharge at public ranges. Thus you must be a collector, because we said so.
