Can I use a 8 inch FX-9 to compete in 3gun?

Hi there:

Recent PAL holder here, unfortunately I blew all my budget on handguns in a panic, so no money to get a decent rifle anymore. I'd like to save up and get something nice eventually, but that may be in a while. In the meantime I'd like to try to get into 3gun as a serious hobby.

I am based in the Vancouver area and I know that the Abbotsford range has the most well known multigun group. Unfortunately there is a membership waitlist and I'm not sure if any other ranges host 3gun competitions, and who I should reach out to with my question.

I currently have a 8 inch FX-9 waiting on the transfer, it's the closest thing to an AR I'll ever have so I'm keeping it. I know that some 3gun competitions allow PCCs, but would an 8" barrel be too short to compete?

Also, any person or organization I can reach out to in BC to learn more about 3gun, and any potential instructors out there?

Thanks so much!

If you're shooting in a PCC division, I am unaware of a barrel length restriction. Did you look up the rules?

The 3-gun matches I participate in here is SW Ontario would most likely allow it. They definitely play loose with any "official" rules when it comes to permitted firearms (I shot a match using my 7.62x25 pistol once). Before matches, I usually ask the organizer about restrictions on firearms. I find that with the AR-15 ban / OIC, organizers are much more willing to allow pretty much anything that's a rifle. I have shot my Type 81 LMG, SKS, Ruger PC9, and Hi-Point 995TS as my "rifle" for competitions, both Ontario and Michigan (well, the PCCs in Michigan). TBH, shooting at 100 yards plus with a 9mm is not great, but I have sighted my PCC in for 100 yards with handloaded 115gr +P ammo so hitting steel or bowling pins is possible (I put a scope on all my 3-gun rifles....).

The Michigan matches allow bolt action rifles, including the MRA Renegade and the Ruger American Ranch. Again, the range I go to has the attitude shoot what you own. Great bunch of people - I highly recommend shooting matches whereever and whenever you can!

YMMV

Abbotsford does have an avid Multigun group, not 100% but even if you are not a member I *think* you could still go there when they put on practice events (I know for sure you can if it is a match - I aint a member) and I know there is one coming up soon.

I did a match there recently and the distances for rifle weren't huge (maybe 75M at the furthest), there was a few people just using PCC in my squad and they managed just fine. It was all paper for rifle too (no steel to knock down) the pistol round wouldn't be at a disadvantage there either.
