Can I Use A Long Action w/ a 30-06 Bolt Face To Make A 6.5x55?

How much work would be involved to make Remington 700 long action with a 30-06 bolt face work with a 6.5x55? I compared the two an the 6.5x55 looks slightly larger. Is this possible?

Thats what you have to use, yes it works. The brass is so slightly different it doesn't make a difference..

Most of the North American brass is undersized, so presents even less of a problem. Some people do seem to have issues when running European brass that is closer to the full spec.

OP, at worst you will have to open the bolt face slightly to accomodate the full size of the 6.5x55 brass, which isn't the end of the world at all.

Yes it works even with Lapua brass. Didn't do a thing to the boltface or original extractor
Here's my 6.5x55 BJ Ackley I built on a Rem 700 30-06 action. I also own a Rem 700 Classic in 6.5x55 and the boltface is the same diameter .490".

I had one built on a Savage originally in .270. Functioned 100%.
