can restricted rifle still be transfered?

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I know handgun transfers are gone. But what about restricted rifle?
I am eyeing on a CZ Bren2 8 or 11 inch, want to know if it still can be purchased and transferred. The transfer procedure is like handgun or at least in the same queue? waiting half year or so in Ontario?

by the way, can CZ Bren2 either 8 or 11 inch in 223rem can shoot both 223 and 5.56? I saw 8" listed with 223/556, but 11" says 22, so got a bit confused.
I have never bought a restricted rifle before, I think it might be the time now.

Sadly I cannot find any local gun dealers selling 8" anymore, only 11" left now.

why the heck FOC sells 11" at 4000? even though it's out of stock.

I probably will order from G4C for 11", I intend to not deal with FOC for firearms.

I am going to sleep on it a day or two before pulling the trigger, I have never dealt with a this kind of tactical semi-auto centre fire rifles before.

Red Deer Shooting Centre also has CZ Bren 8" in stock. I am not going to hotlink or post the hyperlink here as they are not one of our sponsors, but they do have it in stock.

Hi Jqian,

If you are not firmly set on either the 8" or 11" Bren 2 MS, my strong recommendation would be to go with the 11" Barrel. The .223/5.56mm round does not perform very well ballistically from a 8" tube and would benefit greatly from the added velocity of the extra 3" of barrel. Not to mention the fact that the 8" Barrelled carbine must be heavily over-gassed due to limited dwell-time. That results in a more violent extraction/ejection/reloading cycle, which puts additional strain and wear on the working parts of the carbine. 10.4" is generally considered the minimum advisable barrel length for the cartridge, the 8" Barrel being very much a niche specialist carbine for extremely short-range engagements. If you want to shoot past 100m, you are going to want the extra Barrel length for sure. The 11" Barrel will also give you smoother operation with less stress on the operating components.

To answer your question, the CZ Bren 2 will safely discharge both the .223 Rem and 5.56mm cartridges equally well. They are interchangeable for the most part when it comes to firearms with a military pedigree such as the Bren 2. The 5.56mm round is just loaded a little bit hotter than it's civilian counterpart the .223 Remington round.

I wouldn't worry too much about the current Restricted Transfers backlog. With the handgun freeze now implemented new applications to transfer will have slowed to a trickle for restricted rifles such as the current Bren 2 models. The backlog ought to be reduced accordingly as each day goes by. It shouldn't take long to clear the backlog now that everyone is working on it rather than new applications.

Buy without fear! Restricted tactical rifles are a ton of fun on the range and tend to attract the interest of your fellow shooters. They are a great icebreaker for social chat! Aside from that, they are simply excellent carbines that are a great deal of fun to shoot. Accurate, reliable and easy handling, you will soon understand the attraction of such firearms for the modern civilian sportsman.

I hope that this is of some use to you. Best oof luck with you impending purchase. Go with the 11" Barrel - you won't be sorry!
