So I had a look at the chiappa dedicated upper today, and it seemed well made.

For a little less I can have a bolt conversion kit though so I am not sure what to think.

I like the idea of being able to keep my setup exactly the same with the conversion kit, but how much does point of impact change at say 25m?

Can anybody recommend something?

Questar has the CMMG kit available!

Well the first thing I would recommend is posting in the proper forum.

I have the CMMG conversion kit for my AR's and they work great! I really like the fact that its the same rifle set up and cheaper ammo. the biggest stoppage with the kit though (at least mine anyways) is that sometimes the case being ejected gets caught by the bolt and is returns forward, but if you use proper high velocity ammo, and keep the bolt clean it doesnt happen very often. accuracy at 20m is excellent with the kit. earlier today i fired a 25rnd group that i could cover with a quarter, using a chinese red-dot (shot out the centre of the target). moving back and forth there isn't much difference in point of impact. but having your rifle zeroed for 25m isn't the greatest for .223. I have 2 seperate sight systems, i have a red dot zeroed for 223 , and then a laser zeroed for 25m with .22lr (i use an indoor range when it gets cold out :p). another great point is that its great to use 26rnd magazines in your AR lol, and the blackdog mags are relatively cheap and work great. though i havent tried the drum mag yet.

hope this helps, any more questions feel free to ask! (and don't get confused btwn black and green rifles/shotguns lol)

p.s. has anyone done a review on these kits yet? i didn't find one.. maybe i'll do one this weekend...

"Every generalization is dangerous, even this one." -Alexandre Dumas

The bolt concersion kits dont normaly work as well as a dedicated upper..

I don't consider that generalization to be accurate; I don't see how a Chiappa upper could work better than my CMMG conversion.

That's like someone saying that an HK is more reliable than a Glock.

No malfunctions=no malfunctions.

also in regards to the dedicated upper, a friend of mine bought one, but it wouldn't work on his lower, the hammer didn't function properly with the .22 upper so he had to send it back. I think the problem was that the hammer wasn't able to move fully forward and was getting caught on the bolt, or something like that? I never actually saw the problem, just had it explained to me. but i havent found an AR yet that the CMMG bolts don't work in. including the old CQ311 to dlask, bushmaster and the new CQ556's.

A kit review would be a good read and no I have not seen one either. God I hope this post gets moved before someone jumps out a window. Safety first....Lol.

Probably just the hammer. The manufacturer of my .22 upper specifically specifies that a plain old milspec, no-notch hammer be used.

I didn't believ them and slapped an upper onto my RRA lower with an RRA NM trigger/hammer... and yes. Jam-o-matic.

Swapped the RRA lower for one with a plain old DPMS mil-spec no notch hammer and... Functionc flawlessly.

Read your manual
