Can someone take me coyote hunting? (MTL, QC area)

I have never been coyote hunting but I want to try it. If anyone in the Montreal area could take me I would greatly appreciate it. You can keep the furs etc from anything I snag if you want, I just want to try the experience.

Get out there and start talking to farmers. Use goggle maps satellite view to refine your search for example but it comes down to putting in the leg work for yourself. In no time you will have a number of permissions to hunt and then you will be good to go. Don't sit on here waiting for someone to help you. Even though there are many good folks on here who might bring you out hunting it should be about you getting out there and getting it done so you have your own land to hunt. Maybe you don't drive? I can understand needing a lift if you have no wheels, good luck

The eastern townships is a good place to start...lots of deer...plenty of coyotes. Take a drive near Coaticook and inquire.

Its so hard to have things like this work for the beginners. There have been so many hunters burned by others because of when they are invited on a hunt to other places and then found down the road that they decided to blind side you and just go back, that hunters these days are not trusting other hunters. You cant even trust close friends as I seen this past fall.

Try going to the Montreal Sportsman show down town and talking to some of the game call guys. I had done this show for years and talked to tons of coyote hunters at it. This year I wont be there as the rep backed out of this show...

I think you summed it up for me too. Ive heard alot of stories like this myself.

And in order to do that you have to take that person out to your spots to show em. New people/hunters DONT usually have their own places to hunt yet...

Another factor as is the case with me, I can't think of a single property where I could actually bring anyone other than my son because we are the two individuals who have clear permission to hunt and we have never asked if we could bring a guest. To bring another hunter along means that we need to track down the farmer and then basically vouch for that guest hunter something that I know I would not do unless he was already a hunting partner. The other thing is very often we don't see anyone never mind the farmer when we get out there because we don't always park near the barn instead we end up parking in various spots to access the fields when we want early or late arriving or leaving in the dark. Good luck finding the farmer so you can ask him for permission for buddy to hunt. Sounds like a pain in the butt for everyone.

New hunters such as the op just have to get out there for themselves and keep asking for permission unconcerned by the number of refusals they get. First you have to hunt for your land to hunt then after that over time you always keep your eyes open for good locations to go and meet and hopefully talk with the farmer or the land owner about accessing some of their land for hunting. Gradually you will find many good spots to hunt.

Do I just walk up to the house and politely ask if they have a coyote problem that needs solving? How do you giys go about this?

Yeah moreless.

I would driver around and if I saw a coyote I would find out who owned that chunk of land and go ask them. Just say that you saw a coyote over (wheereever you saw it) and ask them if they would mind if you went out and tired calling it in. And when I was talking with the farmer I tell them that Ive been shooting for this long and Im this and Im that kind of thing, so they kind of get a feel for your character. Then when you get permission from someone just go to the neighbours farm and ask them by saying that I shooting coyotes for so and so, would you mind if I tried calling coyotes on your property. Some farmers have even taking me out in their trucks and showed me around on where I can and cant shoot.

I havent had any problems yet.

You will learn more of the really reallys by doing it yourself. I've taken a lot of people waterfowl hunting and it blows me away how oblivious some of them are as to how much work goes into a hunt.
Start by scouting, grab a coffee first thing in the morning and go for a tour (make sure you take binoculars). Watch for coyotes and or coyote activity. Once you've found this seek out the land owner. When asking permission to hunt make sure you are polite and respectful. If you get permission to hunt ask about property lines and if they have any rules. (some farmers don't want you driving in their fields) in general when you are hunting someone's land be respectful, word travels fast with farmers. If your reputation is good you shouldn't have any issues gaining more access. Good luck and have fun.
