This was the image on the March 18th NFA ad but I have no idea what type of rifle it is; anyone know?
Can someone tell me what kind of rifle this is?

Not quite, an M-1 Carbine and an M-1 rifle are to different animals.
I had a couple of Erma EM1 .22's that looked like that, but the mag was smaller than the one pictured. I'm sure it's a 30 M1 carbine. I have one restricted that is for sale and one that is non restricted that I'm keeping. Also have a Marlin 989 that is a look-a-like to the carbine.
maybe it's an M2, a cute left hand shooter deserves to get the feel of the M2

I haven't seen a real M2, I do know they have a selector switch, but just exactly where and what it looks like, I must admit, I do not know.

The selector switch for an M-2 Carbine is a knob or a tab attached to a lever, located at the top front of the receiver, on the left side. The photo above doesn't appear to show one.
