I don't know a heck a lot about either rifle, but i know the M14 is pretty much a modified Garand.
I've been seeing stripped Garand receivers going for $50..
So im wondering if parts from an M14 could be used to partially build a Garand..

What purple said. The design of the two rifles is similar, but almost nothing interchanges. As an analogy, think of the M1 as an AKM and the M14 as the AK-74 - very similar, and the latter is obviously derived from the former, but few parts worth mentioning are cross compatible.

The M1 receiver is quite a bit longer than the M14/305/M1A, to accommodate the 30-06 cartridge.

As mentioned, only a few parts are interchangeable.

In the old days, there were guys, Stateside, building M1 Rifles that took BAR mags. It'd cause strokes and apoplexies now though. As I recall, only the sights are compatible. Mind you, there is a list of all the parts that are compartible on one of the Stateside forums. Don't remember which one, of course. Culver, I think.

Yeah, I remember when a guy in Seattle was adapting M1's that way. He was charging $150 for his work! Those were the days .....

There were also guy's mating M14 barrels to a garand receiver and adapting the gas system. Basically an 8 shot emblock clip M14....

Machining the Garand bolt for a roller bearing can be tricky, but would be the critical part for GARAND/M14 hybrid.

From the sounds of it, by the time you actually found and paid for all the pieces and went through the horrible trial and error pain of trying to make them fit let alone actually function, the $1200 for a shooter grade garand doesn't seem that expensive anymore!

They used the original garand op rod, shortened and sleeved with the M14 op rod end to fit the guide.

Yes Sir, we have a Winner!

Give that man a cigar!

I had one in my hands (exactly as stated above) last May in Winchester, Virginia at the NSSA Nationals.

I don't condone doing this myself, but,,,,,
