Hey there,

Just curious if someone is legally allowed to buy ammunition with a Minor's Licence/Permit? If so, can you then buy any of the calibers a store sells?

Some info on this would greatly be appreciated! Thanks.

Minor’s Licence: the only licence available to individuals under 18 years of age. It allows the licence holder to use non-restricted firearms for specific activities such as hunting or target practice. The holder of a Minor’s Licence cannot acquire or possess firearms or ammunition.

I just went to the RCMP page concerning the minor's permit and it's "under construction" (more or less) so it's not there. (yup. Tried to get to it a bunch of different ways - it's gone for now)

But from memory, a minors permit (ages 12 to 18 ) allows the permit holder to purchase ammunition, as well as freely use and borrow long guns. They just can not "own" their own long gun.

The catch is, and I have gone at a couple stores over this, their store policy is no sale of ammo to persons under 18. And even when I rented a kid with a permit to challenge their policy they wouldn't budge. They're afraid to sell to minors. Even one with a permit in his hand, and a printout from the RCMP.

From memory, so not gospel, but I can't imagine I would challenge the store's policy without verifying first. And my dreams are not usually about kids buying ammo.
