I'm asking this question on behalf of my dad who had shoulder surgery this year. I was wondering if anybody knows if you can get a special permit to hunt with a crossbow in archery season if you can't pull a regular bow back. I know you can crossbow hunt in the SWMZ and PAWMZ but we hunt other zones

I heard that next year x-bows will be with archery. This is form my boss' neighbour that works at the dnr office. Was also told that xbows are in rifle season is because in bantario some retard was shooting ppl with one

I don't get why a supposed incident in Ontario would have any influence on archery hunting regs in Sask? Crossbows have been used during archery season here for as long as I can recall.

In Sask cross bows are considered the same as muzzle loaders season and zone wise. Unless noted otherwise in the synopsis. Some places it is the same as archery.

Many yr. ago we got a 'permit' of some sort to shoot from a vehicle. This was for a fellow who was in a wheelchair. Not the same thing but similar. This was when Ian McMurchy was @ the DNR and he sent us to the right people.Call and ask for the deputy minister. Mark

There are separate archery regs for crossbows in Saskatchewan?

That's because the archers like their exclusive season, and aren't eager to share it with anyone else. SERM couldn't give a rat's ass whether a bow is oriented horizontally or vertically,(as long as they get their tag money) but the archers are very effective lobbiers.

The stick bow guys hated the compound guys, and the "traditional muzzleloaders" would love it if all the inline guys died tomorrow. Its all about self interest, and haveing their turf protected.

Ain't that the truth now. Look at the regs. as wriitten by the Sask Outfitters ass'n. as well. Same crap, but that's a diff. topic. Mark

Maybe, I see this on Gov of Sask website, seems geared towards allowing shooting from vehicles but it couldn't hurt to ask about crossbows during general archery season:

Hunting with a Disability Permit Application (Download PDF)
A number of physically disabled people enjoy hunting but their disability prevents them from hunting normally. Some disabled persons may qualify for a permit to allow them to hunt from a vehicle or use a vehicle to hunt in a manner that is normally prohibited by the wildlife regulations. All requests for disabled hunter permits should be made through the nearest Ministry of Environment office and will be reviewed by a conservation officer
