Just wondered how many of you gunnutz can actually hear your barrel vibrate and resonate through the stock, after firing?

I have two rifles that sing quite noticeably after squeezing the trigger. The others I dont notice as often(maybe too high a frequency for my ears.)

I have asked several other guys that I shoot with and they say "NO,I dont hear anything except the bang.

Just curious, I cant be the only one!

If it is that noticeable, how is that rifle grouping?

The two main culprits are actually grouping quite well.I am still doing load development with one and the other I am still shooting factory rounds from.
Actually the 270 WSM that I am shooting factory winchester PP's from is showing me great promise for a sporter weight barrel.
The other is a Rem Sendero in 264WM and although nothing stellar yet,it sure isn't spraying targets.
These are the last two groups I fired several days ago(one from each rifle) The loads fired from the Sendero were loaded using F/L sized virgin brass loaded very moderately.I now fire 3 shot groups from sporters and 5 shots for heavier barrels.
Although I'm not sure what they are singing,I almost positive it isn't country!
Pics:Yes they are from 100yds.

Well boney, that is something that I've never heard before. I am a vibration analyst, that is, I own several vibration analyzers and often get involved into de-tuning machinery (not guns) that are resonant to forcing frequencies. I have often thought about capturing a vibration FFT spectrum from my gun barrels, but never have. I imagine that even if you hear sing a tune, you are in fact hearing it's resonant frequency. However if the shooting is not affected, then I guess you really don't have a problem, at least not based on the groupings in your pictures. Good topic though, I must say.

Funny, I work in a field where we use vibration analysis for predictive maintenance aswell.handy for balancing fans and blowers.
Anyway,I'm not saying I hear it everytime, but quite often when your cheek is welded to the stock (especially on these two latest rifles)I'm hearing it resonate for a split second and I know its not my ears ringing or anything like that.I'm almost sure I'm detecting that barrel singing/vibrating.

Hey, I know you're not hearing things or country music or the likes. Being in the field of work that I'm in, my ears have become atuned to hearing problems with machinery that others miss. Don't you worry about a silly sthing that "they" say....:)

I had an older Tikka HB in 22/250. It was the most accurate rifle I've ever owned. It would shoot any load into tiny holes.

Anyways, whenever I shot it the barrel would resonate for a bit after the shot, just like a tuning fork. It would transmit down throught the stock and I could both hear and feel it on the side of my head that contacted the cheekpiece. There was this fellow at the range [bit of a ninny] who wanted it to buy, but thought the the bbl was loose or some other major problem with the rifle. He missed out on a very good rifle. :D

Only when my loads are at maximum.
