Hey guys,

I'm back into hunting this year, after a ten year wife/kids/house/bills sidetrack. I thought I understood the regs alright, but I can't get this untangled in my brain.

Can I bowhunt for deer, and bring along a rifle in case I see a coyote? The farm I'll be on, the owner has been having problems with them, and he encouraged me to take care of any I might come across.

WMU 64A, so it's alright to shoot rifle, and it's a farm .: it's pest control (right?). But can I do both activities at the same time? There's some sort of calibre restrictions when deer season is open, correct?

Yeah, any of you guys able to sort this one out? Search isn't working out for me tonight.

Thanks!

*I'd even be fine with just going for coyotes, but isn't there an issue about having a 'not deer rated calibre' in the bush when deer season is on? Long day, lol :)

**I guess the question is, can you hunt deer in Ontario with .223? For some reason, I always thought no. ONe thing for sure, is that this reg book reads like it was written by SJW vegan anti-hunters. What a bunch of crap laws and rules in here. I don't remember it ever being like this.

It's almost as if the people writing this stuff, were actively trying to discourage people from hunting. What BS..

THanks. Yeah, I've been digging into this reg book. Still seems like it's legal to hunt deer with a .223 though (for the rifle hunt). I just couldn't bring the bow along.
In short, no. Not if its bow season only for deer, you cant carry a center fire and your bow.

I have taken many coyotes with a bow, most incidentally while hunting deer and bears... but a few while intentionally hunting and calling them, so it can be done. For Ontario, in a "bows only" season, while in possession of the applicable tag for the unit you are in, you can NOT carry a centerfire rifle. In an "any weapon" season (bow, muzzleloader, rifle) you CAN carry both a bow and a centerfire rifle.

Having said that, it is counterproductive to be firing a rifle while your primary intention is to bowhunt deer. Personally, I would leave the coyote shooting for another time, unless you get one into archery range, in which case... Take Him!

I have brought in many foxes and coyotes by "mouse squeaking" by just lip-smacking the back of my hand.
