the title says it all can you load a special load in a magnum shell I had thought I read some were you could, but I do not want to do damage to me or my gunns thanks
If you are loading a .44 mag cartridge to .44 special velocities you will have no problem. You are just reducing the load. To go the other way is a no-no. I have only loaded .44 mag for a rifle. Whether a magnum charge would fit in a .44 special case I can't say. I know "SOME" .44 mag loads I used were compressed charges.....Anyone know.....
Note that for some specific powders (H110, WW298) you are not supposed to reduce the loads.
Putting the same load into a longer case has the effect of reducing the load. Peak pressures WILL be reduced by putting a 44Spl load into a 44 Mag case.
