So pics will be added later, today is not the day to worry about that as I'm too pissed off to try and do it, I'd probably make it worse. I just recieved today a M1 Garand sniper from Mac308 (thanks a lot btw!!) and to my amazement, the cover on the left side adjustment knob was bent and not locking into place. The box was damaged at this point and on the other side at the cocking handle, the box itself was not damaged otherwise. I could see the handle punching through the box, but not the knob cover. Any ideas how I could fix it without causing more damage (pics to follow)? Thanks Canada Post you f'n R:d: for :kickInTheNuts:!!
:runaway:

Was the wood stock smash or was it the metal? If it's the metal well to put it nicely, nope. If it's the wood you will need the power of steam;) or contact louthepou for some help.

Insurance on packages, regardless of how much you insure it for, only pays for $100.

The company I work for has been fu*ked over at least a dozen times with Canada Post damaging the packages. Each time the package was insured for whatever the price was (~$200-$3000) and we ONLY ever received $100 (yes, ONE HUNDRED dollars) from Canada Post.

Has anybody ever received more than this? In fact, has anybody here actually followed up with CP after their items were damaged?
How much insurance did you pay and how much did you get compensated?

Folks should pay attention to the Garand op rod handle and the bolt knob on bolt guns when packing for shipment. For the Garand I lay a piece of rigid foam insulation over the op rod handle so it is flush. For a bolt gun one can pack extra cardboard around the bolt knob or remove the bolt and pack it in bubble wrap inside the shipping box. Sad to say, I've received Garands and bolt guns where the handles/bolt knobs have broken thru the ctnr in shipment. Don't trust CPost to handle with care.

Not the fault of canada post.Rifles should ALWAYS be over packed.Ship in a case if you can.Remove bolts, special sights, scopes etc and pack
separately.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune S. Sniper! I am sure you'll get some repair advice as soon as the photos are up. Lots of knowledgable guys on here! Guess I've been lucky! I've never had anything ever lost or damaged in any way that I have shipped. I DID have a member mail me a Mosin Nagant once that was packed extremely poorly. The bolt handle wasn't wrapped a bit with anything and the rifle was rattling around in the box. Now that was a rediculously crappy packing job! I'm lucky it made it here let alone all that was sticking out was a bolt handle. :) I have shipped a lot of items and firearms all over Canada using Canada Post and have yet to have anything damaged at all. I OVERPACK to the extreme though when I ship guns, or I use a hardcase. I have heard insurance horror stories but don't know anyone personally who has lost anything and had to attempt to make a claim yet. By the sounds of things, I hope I never have to file a claim.

OK yes.. I've been paid out more then $100.. But their insurance is for loss not for damage.. Damage they claim is due to poor packing.. I don't agree as I know things get dropped, thrown, moved around in a rough fashion.. But that is just the shipping business unless it is bright pink with fragile stickers in 10 different languages it's gonna be treated like any other box..

Well I've never had a problem with 'em until now. I ordered a shotshell reloading machine from cabelas.com an a stock from Havlin which is based in Festus, MO. Now both orders shipped out on april 20th. I got my reloader on the 26th, so one week later, and I've yet to get my damn stock. Now 2 weeks to get here I can understand. What pisses me off is that the reloader came right away and the stock just ain't showing up. No tracking number once USPS hands it off to CP too which sucks. 3-4 more days and it would have been quicker to jump on my mule and head down to St-Louis myself lol.

I just got done doing the dance with Canada Post. Over a lost package. It was only 100 $ value, but got the Royal run-around. The dealer in the states; Templar Books I believe (awesome people), finally had to replace the book and try to get USP to wring something out of Canada Post later.
Royal f--k around from Canada Post, not impressive. Tracking shows it going into Customs in Montreal, then....Poof! Gone!
3 months. Templar said "always request 1st class" less problems that way.
By the way the book was 'Bolt Action Military Rifles of the World'
Worth the wait; milsurp fans coffee table art. Look it up, awesome book

you should be insured for $100, for xpress post. i have had Canada Post send me a cheque for $100 over the delay of a piece of paper i sent xpress post (guaranteed next day, it was late a day). Keep in mind, once you cash the cheque, you cannot pursue them for more money, so its a win-win in some cases. ;)

What I really cannot understand is their rates. Small package Xpresspost to the UK - $70. Small package Expresspost from the UK to Canada= $12 and faster

Had to wait 9 months for reimbursement of a a package they lost but finally got it= $275

Many people are lousy in packing stuff to be honest but some are really excellent.

Lost

I had one shotgun I was shipping out go missing. I did not realize it was missing until a month after I shipped it because some buyers never inform you that the parcel has arrived. I had it insured for more than the initial $100 and after filing my complaint, I received a cheque two weeks later. I don't understand them sending it to me as I already recevied payment for the shotgun. I had to send the refund on to the buyer.

Other than that most items I get are pretty well packaged and I sure hope everything I ship is being received in good order.

Oh only other thing they broke was a pellet handgun I shipped out, completely wrapped in bubble wrap and in a secure box, they managed to damage the rear sights?

I think they try harder to damage items when they know it's a firearm.

Because you insured it, the shipper always gets the refund.
