Canada's new C6A1 Flex General purpose MG

Of course they're going to export them. That's my point. It's the same thing they did with the C7/C8. Government pays for the equipment and they then market their goods to the world. Why are we subsidizing it?

I sort of get the want/need for domestic production of defense items so maybe it's a step in the right direction but unless they apply the same logic to technology then we'll always be relying on the US for it.

If you read the Jenkins report, the gov laid out their strategy to specialize in niche areas - key industrial capabilities. Canada isn't big enough to be a player in all areas, but the gov't is trying to be significant in specific areas. Seems like a reasonable strategy to me.
 
CC isn't any different than any other strategic company. You have to rember the Brits did the same with the MAG 58, they had HK manufacture new ones in the U.K. They didn't undercut FN, they wanted the ability to have an assembly and repair area closer to home.
