Of course the SNC/IVI plant is now owned by General Dynamics.

The real question is why don't they sell to the civilian market too?

Because you would not pay what they charge the militarys. I was told by an ex-employee the last price he knew of was $0.72 per round! Whether it is true or not I can't say but I do know this is roughly the same price the plant in Malaysia charge that government.

In 2004 a 5.56N (.223) round cost $1.55! They saw us coming and smiled.

Sometimes I wonder why we don't go "Russian style" and hold an occasional "open doors" day, get the general public into a sort of "pay to play" type of deal at the various bases. I'd certainly consider paying a couple hundred bucks to be allowed to fire 2 or 3 mags from an genuine C7... Surely there are quite a few people who would do the same. The up side is that it would get the general public to know a little more about our military, and it would also get our troops a little extra trigger time.

That is the greatest idea I've heard in a long time! However, if the Govt. is really paying 1.55 a round, and they hoped to make any profit wearing out some C7's with an open shoot day, they would have to be charging the public 3 bucks a shot. In places like vietnam and cambodia, you can fire AK's for 20 bucks a mag...of course, that involves going to Cambodia(shudder) or Vietnam(JOY!)...

Read that in Cambodia for 150 USD you can rent a rocket launcher and buy a cow.
