are there any companies in Canada that produce ammo or is it all shipped i from the US?

There are a handful of companies that make ammo in Canada. I think most of them are factory reloads, though, and at that it's mostly pistol. Obviously there is IVI but they only sell to mil/le.

Doubt it. Cost prohibitive to start up a major ammunition manufacturing business and you would have a hard time seeing profits. Most shooters are cheap, and since it would probably end up being priced higher than U.S., European, or Asian ammo, it probably wouldn't sell.

On the other hand, I encourage anyone to prove me wrong

Canadian bdx, western munitions, the bullet shop and custom reloading supplies makes reloaded ammo in Canada.

As already said PrairieShot and IIRC Challenger are two canuck made in shotgun ammo.

were actually thinking about starting off with 22 & pistol calibers with possibly a line geared for IPSC

I only know of one company that "makes" ammo in Canada (draws cases, etc), General Dynamics in QC
