I recently picked this up at an auction (it was mixed in with a lot). I have had it identified as a pattern 1888/1889 bandoleer. Does any one have any idea of its value, I can't seem to find info on it anywhere.

very nice shape, I have a friend that rides with the horse troop, they use the same gear, I'll ask him. I know that the repo kit is not cheap so a real one in good shape is not goint to be cheap, nice find.

Interesting that a single-round bandoleer would be dated so late - by 1912 I believe we were already issuing the Ross Mk.III, which is charger loaded. Maybe for cavalry units still using the Mk.II? Did the mounties still have their Lee-Enfield carbines in 1912?

There is a C broad arrow mark just above the buckle, so it was definitely army issue.

The MkIII did not become common issue until @1915, many units reporting to training camps in the UK still armed with MkII varients.

Ross MkIII may be the winner for "shortest issue" primary issue rifle. Some sources quoting 1913-1916, others 1914-1916....
