Hello,

I am seeking information on the Canadian Broad Arrow marked Savage Model 1907 Pistol (.32 Auto). Does anyone out there know anything about them? I am also trying to document any known serial numbers.

In Bailey Brower Jr.'s book "Savage Pistols", he simply describes the Canadian pistols as follows, "Savage sold 500 pistols under contract to Canadian authorities for military or police use." The one in his book bears the serial number 105371 which puts production at 1914.

They are also apparently discussed in Clive Law's "Canadian Military Handguns, 1855 to 1985".

Thanks.

I've got a copy of the Law book at home. I'll take a look this evening, I can't remember the details off the top of my head.

Piat; very interesting, I happen to have one I'm told was built in the '20's and it is marked TPF (Toronto Police Force). This pistol came to my family many years ago via the then Police Chief (Mackie) who's family married into mine (his sister was married to an Uncle on my side or something). In any event, I was told that it was a Police side arm and was in fact used in service and potentially needed to become "missing" from the lock up due to an investigation that the powers that be, wanted to see fail (Blue Line stuff). I have taken the pistol to individuals who are in the know about Canadian Service revolvers/pistols and they told me that although the pistol is marked to the Toronto (well prior to "Metro") Police Force, the Police Force was never issued such a pistol.

Incidentally, My Grandfathers younger brother accidentally shot himself in the chest with this very pistol, he lived. He then went to the European Theater as a dispatch rider and got shot there too!! He also survived that!! We called him the lead magnet. Actually the first incident was a ricochet (the pistol fires .32 FMJ) in the basement of the house they grew up in. He was firing into the wood pile and missed, striking the concrete wall and then, well himself. That incident is documented in several Toronto news papers of the time and are in a scrap book around here somewhere.

My Pistol is not C Broadarrow marked, but I'd like to see one that is. I'd also like to verify if the Toronto Police Force were ever issued these pistols and marked them as mine is marked.
While I'm dreaming, I'd also like an extra magazine for it.

If you want I could PM the serial # to you, it is much earlier in the number sequence than the one you have quoted.

Ok, according to Law, two Savage 1907s have been reported with the C Broad Arrow, with serials within 200 of each other. However the stamp on them is not the official pattern and no documentation on them has been found. It's rumored that the French contract was originally intended for Canada before being diverted, which may account for them. Do you have pics so we can compare your example to the one from his book?

Gentlemen, thank you for your help. I'm glad to receive any information. Very interesting story on the "TPF". I'm definitely very eager to have serial numbers PM'd to me. I want to do some comparisons in order to see what ended up in Canadian service. I found a couple pics online of the Canadian Broad Arrow markings which I shall share below:

If anyone can find me one of these pistols, I would be quite pleased.

Also, here is a link for researching Savage serial numbers to establish date of manufacture: http://www.savage99.com/dates.htm
