What dates did this stamp appear?

The reason I ask is I found a rubberized rain poncho, there is a label but its faded. The date is 19.... however there is a nice Canadian Broad Arrow stamp.

I think they still used this markings into mid 50's?

Anyone?
Cheers!

Not positive when it appeared, but it was used on equipment up until 1948-49. After the C Broad Arrow, the Canadian Technical Inspection Services stamp was used on all military kit.

Of course this is the accepted date, but I have seen the C Broad Arrow on 1950 dated kit as well...nothing after that so far that I have seen.

The stamp was a canadianised version of the British Crowfoot, which denotes king's stores. The British use dates back centuries, while the Cdn mark could be found on material as far back as the Boer War.

It's use was discontinues in 1947 if (I recall correctly, but it could have been 48 or 49) as a result of RCMP complaints that with all the surplus material being released onto the market at that time, the property marks were not canceled out. It would have been pointless trying to charge someone for possession of Crown property on that basis.

The latest item I saw with a C/i\ was a KFS dated 1965. Most likely the mark would have been the result of the manufacturer following the drawings for the product he was making.

There is a great article on the C/i\ in one of the old Cdn Army Bulletins from the 50s. Everything you wanted to know and then some.
