Hello everyone, I am working on an WW2 Canadian sniper exhibit and came accross this carry case in the collection, I am having trouble finding out what kind of scope would be used with this. The outside is canvas, on the inside of the lid there is a leather flap and its 10.75" long. 20240717_114800.jpg20240717_114753.jpg

For the green box, judging by the latches (that look darn close to WW2 style) I vote German, possible Yugo

It may be, it was only tagged "scope case"

Here is another pic of the box, it was tagged barrel carrier, it has a small padded area, I forgot to mention it has a hole running through it 20240717_120729.jpg

The scope transit case has been identified as a WW1 British p-14 (T) pattern 1918 telescope case. Thanks for the help!

Now to figure out this wood carrier...

Close - The canvas case was for the MODEL 1918 scope. There was no Pattern 1918 scope. It is a common error. The scopes have the model designation on them. In mu collection I have one of the Winchester Patt'14 Mk. I* W (T) (later renamed No. 3 mk. I* (T) rifles for it but not the scope or scope case.

Seaforth72 is correct that the 1918 telescope was engraved 'Model 1918' on the tube. However Ian Skennerton in his book
"The British Sniper" calls it the 'Pattern 1918 Telescope' on pg 103 and pg 104. Rather than split hairs on official language which I have seen on this sight more than once I think it should be good practise to adhere to common terminology. Both
referrals are the same telescope. John
