Hi there, I sent off my firearms license (restriced and non) at the end of Augest. The cfc said that they had recieved it on Sept 2, 2010. From what I can gather I had a complete application, with all the proper paper work and references. On Monday Sept 18th, they called me and verified some of my application (literally asked me every question that was on the paper form) and later that day I got a call from my friend whom I used as a reference, saying that they had contacted her and grilled her, my other reference said the same. Anyways, the online page that allows you to check the application of your status still says that "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date" Its been almost 60 days, just wondering how close I am to the end of the process, was it a long wait from when they contacted your references until you got approved?

you always have the option of calling and talking to a person to inquire....more accurate than people here can be.

Just called cfc, Asked to inquire about my firearms license, She said that it had been sent to the CFO in Ontario where I live and is pending revision and approval- Estimated wait time 1-3 months from where were at as of right now... Am I able to call the CFO in Ontario and "inquire" or am I just stuck waiting for Ontario to go over a Federal matter?

Call the CFO and ask. All licenses go to the CFO for final approval but it never hurts to make sure everything is okay.

I found out they needed additional documentation for my license - but hadn't called me yet. So by calling I sped up the process.

Call the 1-800 number for the CFC and ask to get transferred to the Ontario CFO.

Call your CFO and ask if there's a problem. Then call your MP and complain about the long gun registry and the long waiting period.

Half of our problem is that we don't know how to whine effectively like all the liberal twinkies do.

Spoke to the CFO yesterday at 2:30, Just called to enquire about the status of my application. The lady I spoke with was extremely polite and helpful (unlike the contact at the CFC) and said that she would try and have someone look at it that day. 2:45 rolls around and I get a call from the CFO saying I've been approved. The CFC website application status was also updated immedietly. What a country!

I had the CFC forward me to the Ontario CFO office(the people responsible for slowing down of the process) and I talked to someone there. Got it much faster as I needed to go Turkey Hunting.

Did mine in the beginning of June(Restricted and non) and waited til mid August for my license. Just be patient and it will make it back to you....mind you mine was done in Alberta and might be a little quicker becasue of that.

Wait the required minimum and then Inquire. The CFC will advise you of problems by mail.
I called in and was advised that because both of my references could not be contacted (unidentified voicemail boxes) and that they had mailed them a letter asking them to call in. I had both of them call in right away. Then it went to the cfo. After a week or so called again and got transfered to the CFO's office and the nice lady there said there was a hold up getting something from Sask regarding my courses, but she would call me back by 3:00pm. She called back ten minutes latter and told me it was approved.

This brings me to why you should call in. Those two letters that were mailed to my references showed up 3 weeks after I had my RPAL in hand. They were dated the day I started calling in to find out what was wrong. I wonder how long they would have let it go before sending them if I had not called in.

I agree Jethunter we don't know how to complain like lieberal twinkies. I do know however when you are having problems with government agencies going to your MP or MLA or sometimes the threat of doing so is enough to get things to go your way. Which reminds me I need to write to my MP.

Ugh, I didn't realize this would take so long. I was totally planning on hitting on a CF reservist to see if she wanted to go shooting shortly. I'm doing the PAL & RPAL this weekend. Oh well, coffee it is!

Grats on the new licence, the_young_gun. I called the CFO's office for my province a few times in my process, just to make sure all the paperwork they got was there, and they were helpful. The first liner on the phone there tried to push my app through by taking it off the list of a CFO that had a backlog, and e-mailed it to one that could look at it. Sure enough, I get a call later in the day, have a quick chat, and get approved. Who knows, it could have sat another 2-3 weeks (or longer) if I didn't call. Just don't pester them.

I began my PAL/RPAL process in August. Sent in my test, references and then one of my references decided not to answer his phone a couple times. I had to get him to call THEM ferchrissakes. Then I waited. And waited. Called the CFO and the lady there was real nice and said it had been refered to a local firearms officer. Called him in early November. He was off work untill early December. Left a message for him on the day of his return to work. He calls me 5 days later and informs me the reason I haven't been approved yet is there is a guy with the same name as me in GTA with almost the same birthday as me and he has NUMEROUS police issues. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHH. Anyways I am finally approved and should get my plastic within a week. Just in time for Christmas! Jeez louise they don't make it easy for ya!.
Already went down and joined my local pistol club and I do a 4 hr orientation tommorow and Saturday. Then I am good to go, I think.

One question I do have is after I produce my PAL/RPAL and complete my orientation at the range can I buy my pistol right away? If so do I get transport papers right away? Sorry if these are noob questions but at this point thats what I am.
TIA:)
