Pick up a No. 2 Mk I* pistol serial number 4T6012. It is in excellent condition and the serial number is still in the white. Checking Law's book I find it does have the Mk II ejector and an early Mk I safety but it has a Mk I hammer assembly and I think a Mk I extractor. The extractor has a "I" marked on it that is visiable when the hammer is cocked. It is my understanding that the change to the Mk II hammer assembly was to makin cocking easilier. Any problems with leaving the Mk I hammer assembly installed? Also, any problem with leaving the Mk I extractor installed? I do plan on shooting this pistol.
 
If you change any of the hammer assy to a mkII then you must change the safety and ejector as well and vise versa but leaving the extractor as a mkI is fine. the mkII extractor might be abit more reliable though.

I very much doubt that it has a MkI extractor. They are quite different from the MkII.

They also correspond to a MUCH lower serial than yours.

In fact there is NOT a MkI extractor illustrated in either the Steven's Inglis booklet, nor Law's "Inglis Diamond".
 
Upon a close examination of the extractor it appears to be a Mk II. The "II" mark looks to be incomplete. The first "I" is well defined but the second "I" is almost none existent. Looks like the stamp was held at an angle so the first "I" was driven into the part and the second "I" didn't even touch the part. Dsiwy, I don't understand the need to replace the safety and extractor if I go to a Mk II hammer assembly. The only difference I can find in the safeties is the size and shape of the grooved portion on the outside of the safety. And the extractor does not interact with the hammer.
 
Am just going by what the book says for the "ejector" and safety. I would do it just to be safe, since I have not seen a mkI safety. But the safety does contact the hammer since its the hammer axis pin aswell, its not like the parts cost very much.
