Produced in 1993 for the Canadian Armed Forces, this instructional series highlights the Diemaco C7 Service Rifle. Yes, it's not the best video but some of you may still find it interesting.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for posting. Brings back a lot of good memories and bad memories of freezing my ass off in the field. From 7.62 to 5.56 was a real eye opener for us

The FN would knock down those black pop up argets. Then the 5.56mm wouldn't.

At the time I was hoping for the FNC. Really liked that design.

Talking to some of the old timers that work with the SARP said the FNC was the front runner to replace the C1. The FNC was the only rifle to pass the US Army extreme cold weather test. From what I was told politics came into play from the US and supposedly kickbacks to some brass.

Not entirely true. The Galil / Valmet was also entered and was performing the best, was dropped due to "Political" reasons as it was seen as a weapon too close to what the enemy was using. This narrowed the trial to the FNC and M16 A2 type systems. In the end the M16 outperformed the FNC. It was also seen as important to have interoperability with our closest ally, USA. On the drop test the FNC barrel bent, but I don't see this as a negative as other systems may have managed to bend the barrel on a drop test as well. After being issued a C7 I attended a French Commando course. Belgian troops were in my platoon, with FNC's. I loved the FNC but at the end of the course, not one of us would have traded our C7's for a FNC. The French troops had the FAMAS, I loved that gun too, but then again wouldn't have traded my C7 for one. Best would have been a C8.

I left the Army in 1992 so i was still using the FN C1A1 in the reserves.
Loved the FN C1 a real battle rifle.
But the C2 was not loved poorly designed .
was on rifle teams in three units with the FN C1 A1
it could reach out and hit at 600 if you got the wind correct.

Interesting. C7 was adopted mid 80’s, or even 1988 IIRC. What unit did you serve with? I shot the FN in ‘94 but that was the .22 subcal trainer, it was there purely for fun. We had C7s as our service rifle.
