Produced in 1986 for the Canadian Forces, this instructional video highlights the cycle of operation of the newly adopted C7 Rifle and C8 Carbine. Yes, it's not the best video but some of you may still find it interesting.

Thanks,
Kevin

From back in the day when soldiers were not only taught how to shoot but how their firearms actually operated, step by step, cam by cam, gas flow by gas flow.

I still remember well how the FNC1/C2 operate and of course I haven't touched one of those since the CF replaced them with the C7/C8. The engineer in me really enjoys how machines work.

You're right. Most of this stuff is lost on recruits these days. They just don't understand firearms like older generations did. Undoubtedly due to lack of familiarity.

The good news is that it doesn't seem to affect their ability to shoot them well.

I have the VHS too! Something about the synth music, narration and animations just gives me a warm and fuzzy.

I'm pretty sure Nelvana did the animations for this - they're the same studio that animated the Boba Fett segment for the Star Wars Christmas Special, among many, many other cartoons.

I still shudder from learning the cycling action of a C5 as a seventeen year old.
Makes more sense as I aged.
