Canadian Geese in Ontario

Does anyone know a place neer Uxbridge where I could hunt for Canadians, I will be out there next Saturday and would love to pick a few off.

I am a bit new to the sport and would love any advice on locations were I could either set up on crown land or where landowners welcome hunters.

It's still not legal to hunt Canadians anywhere that I know of (though some folks in Afghanistan are poaching some now and then -- but those Canadians shoot back and generally give better than they get).

Now if you're talking CANADA GEESE then I'm sure someone here can help you. You have decoys? or do you plan on trying to pass shoot them?
 
Yes, for those who like to poke fun at my choice of words, I am hunting for Canadian Geese and I do not have decoys....................anyone able to help?

Nope you are hunting for CANADA geese. Canadian geese are simply ones hatched in Canada and those who have mated with citizen geese of Canada. They could be snow geese, white-fronted geese, or Canada geese and still be Canadian geese.

Now to stop busting your balls. Without decoys, you are going to have to rely on jump shooting (difficult on geese) or pass shooting. Both of these will require scouting and/or gaining permission to find out where the geese are watering or what routes they are taking from feeding areas to roosting areas. It involves a lot of time to pattern them and it is generally not very successful in terms of killing more than a goose or two.

You're best bet is to spend a hundred bucks and pick up a half dozen shell decoys or some silhouettes and find where some small flocks are feeding. Get permission and set up in the field so that the decoys are down wind of you (geese need to land into the wind) by about 15 to 20 yards. Geese will usually land on the downwind side of your decoys and you can smack them. If they haven't been hunted hard then even a small spread will get you more birds than jump shooting or pass shooting would. Plus the shots will be closer and you will cripple fewer birds than using one of the other methods.
 
The best way i've seen for hunting geese without decoys is to set yourself up nere a large pound or river or lagoon. yes I said lagoon.recomend you shoot them before they get over water. just set up an hour before dark and wait.usualy they'll head for water just before dark.Don't try to call them without decoys.If there's nothing on the water when you call they won't come anywere near you. happy hunting.
 
Hunting the roost as mentioned above is likely your best bet. The other option is to get a layout blind, which are getting cheaper by the day, and some goose shells. There are some layouts out there that fold down pretty small if you only have a car or small truck. The shells stack well so they take up little room too.
