Does anyone have any idea how many of the H+R M4's were made in Canada and what one may be worth in relation to an American made one? All info I've found so far seams to be of the US variety.

You don't see too many of these for sale in Canada. When they do go, they don't seem to bring huge money - I think in the $200-$500 range, depending on who wants it and how bad. When you first look at the U.S. prices, you may feel the need to soil your trousers. Legal M4s down there often go in excess of $1500 - $2000, "legal" being the important word. I don't pretend to understand the U.S. laws, but I guess they had to be registered in some way or another around 1968 due to the barrrel length and not many were. Those that were registered are very hard to find. If John Sukey is reading this, I'm sure he can explain better. Since they are restricted here, that has seemed to dull people's enthusiasm. I find them interesting, although difficult to research due to lack of info. I've had mine for a few years and have never seen another in "the flesh", although I believe there are a few members here who also have them.

There happen to be a bunch of these floating about in various parts of rural Newfoundland. I saw three while I lived there and everybody was looking for ammo. Seems the USAF dumped a bunch there while they were pulling out. All the ones I saw were US-made.

Nice little toy. Really wish I could find one some time.

I had heard that the licence to build survival rifles came with the licence to build the F86 Saber jet

Assuming one per jet plus another 50 or so for spares should give you a rough total. Have to google to find out how many Sabres were built in Canada but I think it was over 600

Just a thought

I've never seen a US made one for sale in Canada. The H&Rs that I've seen sold for the better part of $1000.
Interesting little rifles, but not terribly useful, seeing as they are restricted.

Talk to any Newf: Newfoundland isn't part of Canada!

Ones I saw were US-made, but it was only the three.

I stayed clear because they all were sick birds (ill eagles).

I can remember back in the 1960s when the Canadian Air Force released a lot of these rifles as Surplus, and they were available for a low price. They take .22 Hornet ammunition. However, our Government, in their usual wisdom, declared them "Prohibited", due to the fact that the barrel was too short, and they could be broken down for concealment, and the stock collapsed, making them too short. Under the laws at the time, these would have been illegal to own.

In the U.S., they presently have to be registered under the regulations that govern machine guns, due to the short barrel. A gray area exists if the barrel is replaced with a longer one. (One sold in 2006 for $2850).

.

Mine came from a fellow who picked it up surplus in the 1960's and had been carrying it on his tractor to shoot ground hogs up until about 2000. They aren't actually prohibited in Canada, just restricted. Still a bummer, though.

Someone sold two deactivated M4s for about $250 or $300 for the pair back last year or the year before. I am not exactly sure about the price, but I think its close. I picked up a spare barrel for an M4 at a gun show a few years back with the hope I find some use for the barrel.
