I was on the 1911 forum and someone asked if Canadians made any firearms and I recalled that somewhere on CGN (I think) thre was a post about some company here making a fairly upscale one. Alas, the *%&$^%#&^# Search function (so-called) reliably turned up nada, although I went back a year. Anyone remember this?

Thank you, gentlemen! Canstar was the one I was thinking of.

Joe Dlask has been in the business for a long time; you can even buy his parts from Brownell's, which is no small kudo to him.

I will not say Canstar is one of them because there are nobody ever own one of their production. Dlask is indeed the one and only one since Para gone to state.

ParaOrdinance!

Used to be made in Canukstan but have moved to the US. No benefit to us as you couldn't buy one at the time.

So far Canstar is vapour - there was a guy here who ordered one, then Canstar offered him one in a different calibre, which he was willing to accept - but as far as I am aware, they still have not shipped him anything (5 or 6 months). Dlask guns are good quality from the examples I have handled, and extremely accurate. His current pricing is on a par with what you'd pay for an off the shelf gun, which is a great deal for a custom gun.

Here is a picture of my Dlask Custom 1911 .45 ACP. It's a one-of-a-kind and made like a Rolls Royce. The precision, attention to detail and workmanship is over the top. Serious range cred...made in Canada!

As far as I know, no one here actually has one... So no one can really say if these Canstar 1911s actually exist.

Best stick with Dlask.

pardon my ignorance, is Dlask a user on this forum, or a company? Does he/they have a website?

EDIT: Nevermind

I shot a few Dlask 1911s - WOW - isn't even an expression! Every gun was EXTREMELY accurate!! Both - .45acp and .40S&W. I saw same accuracy with guns twice as expensive. Finish is very very good, not for a person looking for a '$5G gun' sold at $2G thou. Joe builds guns that shoot-first, looks are second. Finish is still VERY GOOD!!

Joe worked on 2 of my HGs a couple of years ago - GREAT outcome!!!
