I recently acquired my first Remington nylon 66. I’m trying to figure out the date of manufacture. I’ve found a couple lists online, but they seem to be for US made rifles. Mine is stamped made in Canada. Does anybody happen to have a link to list of date codes for Canadian made nylon 66’s?

Can’t see a serial number
Large knurled head windage adjustment screw
What looks like H I A stamped on the right side of the barrel just ahead of the rear sight

What do you guys figure?

If there is a serial number it’s on the receiver cover. Remington has a phone number for dating firearms, free. You could go to the rimfirecentral site in the states and check there

From what I’ve read the first couple years of serial numbers were stamped on the bottom of the barrel just behind the front sight, then they started stamping them on the receiver covers. Or at least that’s what they did in the US, I haven’t been able to find much about the made in Canada stamped ones.

I just learned the Made in Canada rifles were assembled up here from parts made in the US. apparently the import duties at the time were less on parts than for assembled rifles. The early ones were all stamped 1959 which indicated the model version of the gun. It was not the date they were likely assembled. I just got mine from a friend and am trying to run down as much info as I can on the rifle. I remember seeing the 10,004 blocks of wood Remington's professional shot using three rifles in various gun magazines back in the day. He shot the blocks by throwing them in the air. He missed four going for 10,000 hence the four extra blocks. Pretty amazing fete.

Take Care

Bob
