They did in fact build some 1911s. Someone robbed a bank with one years ago and the comment was that he could have got a lot more just by selling the pistol! Hopefully it got to a museum, it was before the days of chopping everything up.
According to "The Ross Rifle Story", Ross offered to build the P14, but the War Office dragged its feet on sending the drawings, they finally got there just after the factory was expropriated. Wonder where they are now!?
