Hello all,
I am a novice reloader - and enjoying it thoroughly. The most fun I have had is reloading my 45-70s with my Lee precision hand-loader kit - awesome fun. For the rest its RCBS all the way.
My question though is well, two part: First, since there is such a high demand for brass, powder etc here in Canada (from what I have experienced recently), why doesn't someone start up a brass / powder manufacturer here in Canada? Can't be that difficult to do. Are there legal issues? Proprietary issues? what's up with this? We're totally at the mercy of the US markets - we're vulnerable.
Second part is, why are there US firearms / powder manufacturers here in Canada (e.g Savage in Lakefield, ON and IMF Powders are produced in Valleyfield just outside of Montreal, Quebec) and yet we can't get the stuff until after it has gone to the US and come back. Isn't there something in NAFTA which ensures that Canadians get first dibs on these since they are produced here? Did we get screwed again?
Perhaps I am way off - but if I was an entrepreneur, I'd be doing something about the reloading supplies (setting up a factory) - as for the second part e.g NAFTA, there's gotta be a way ... I don't want to be at the mercy of the current US arms and reloading supplies demand at all.
Thoughts?
