Son is a machinist at a custom automotive fab shop - customer is wanting center console parts milled out of Canadian Maple.
I suggested that a gunstock supplier might have blanks of the appropriate size.
Any gunstock suppliers in Canada ?

Kent carries it. Various lengths widths and thickness. Actually very common. East Coast Hardwoods carries any wood you would want and then some. Common to exotic. Excellent place to wonder around if you love working with different woods. They let me wander through the warehouse a few times. After about 45 minutes they usually come looking for me. I have parted with a fair bit of money there.

Exotic woods Burlington Ontario has a great select of different and odd wood. They have maple guitar sheets that may work for his application. Very nice figure in the wood. Is in the what's new section.

I use to go through their bits and pieces bins looking for different colored walnut for repairs. They have a whole room dedicated to guitars and I guess other musical instruments. Never seen so many different colored wood types before I went there.I also use to buy Baltic birch plywood to make gun show display racks with. 1/2" was 7 layers. And great people to deal with.

before you buy wood now...sit down, hang on and fasten your seat belt.
We used to by Baltic Birch for $42.00 for a 5 x 5 sheet..
Last week it was $143.50 BEFORE TAX!!!!!

$42-48 is about what I was paying when i bought it. Thankfully I don't make displays anymore. No one would buy them for what you would have to charge. Some guys thought a 6 or 8 gun display rack fully router edged everywhere and collapsible weren't worth $50 each.

At today’s prices , you may as well just chop down a maple tree.

Meh. You don't bother discussing gunstock blanks with the sellers of wood, you just tell them what size, and grade of wood, roughly, you are looking for, and whether they or anyone they know, may be able to provide.

As to costs, they are what they are, and as long as the Customer both wants and is willing to pay, it's of no consequence.

IF the Customer is NOT willing to pay, then you discuss potential alternatives.

For the OP, I doubt there is much more than a few dabblers in the gunstock supply world around Canada, mostly guys dealing in Turkish, English, and other imported walnut blanks in small numbers.

But there are a fair few hardwood suppliers to the furniture and custom cabinetry trade that are like to be able to hook you up! It's just a block of wood, until you carve it into something!
