Canadian Milsurps are cheap!

Compare prices for Milsurps in France and I have told prices in Germany are the same if not higher. One of the reasons why we can't get many of the few Milsurps that come up on the world market. Euro is at about $1.50 canadian right now!

I'd say they are! I was comparing prices of Mosin's and SKS's between our vendors and the USA just for interests sake a few days ago. What a shock! We're lucky in many ways.

Ironically it is the opposit with Long Branchs. My friend in the UK informs me that they are the lease desirable because they are cheaply made compare to other Enfields and there is quite a few kicking around. Over here in Canada people would pay a premium.

Well the last batch of Long Branches that came into Canada recently were imported from Euroarms in Italy and those were selling for $950.00 canadian.

Sounds like one of those national-level weapons myths shared around some circles.

etc etc. Mostly attached to an individuals preference of aesthetic and knowledge over reality and fact. Don't complain about them ditching Longbranch guns though! More for us fellas, more for us.

There is a known "defect" with the Mk.I* rifles, that gets knocked by the average Brit commentator. The rail that holds the bolt head aligned can chip. Yeah, when the bolt is flung rapidly and the bolt head 'happens' to jump and jam the rail.

The topic reminds me of a story told about two old cusses who'd patrol the waiting area behind the firing line at Bisley. They'd spot some colonial with unexpected equipment, and give him chapter and verse from the NRA rule book about this or that infraction they saw or imagined. Pure gamesmanship to get the visitor off his game. The DCRA teams had to post sentries who were equally belligerent to flock these two off and not bother the competitors.

All matching, wartime S/42 Mauserwerke, 1939 dates with excellent bore?????????? Not that much more than here. One thing about the rifles there, they all appear to be in excellent/matching/correct condition. Much better than the regular stuff Century lets come into Canada.

They pay the price and get the best available.

Premium stuff here, for instance the Mas 36 all matching at the prices shown are not that out of line IMHO. Have you folks noticed how FEW milsurps are presently available at any price from most dealers lately??? They seem to be drying up in the US as well.

The thing is, most Canadians won't pay top dollar for the best stuff. Look at those No4s, lovely. That's the stuff we used to see 40 years ago in barrels for $10-$15.

Yup. All matching excellent war time K98's are easily over the 2K mark now.
I'm glad I bought all those SVT when they were $199. They are worth at least twice what I paid for them, maybe more now.

Well... they actually did "suck" compared to German panzer designs plus the Germans used superior tactics. The American M4 Sherman and the Russian T-34 where easier to manufacture in vast numbers and that gave the allies an edge. It did take (on average) 3 Shermans to knock out 1 Tiger...

Based on my "tour" of gunshops during my frequent trips in Europe, I would have to disagree with the generic assesment that Milsurps are "cheap" in Canada compared to Europe. Yes, the higher traffic urban shops and more well known online retailers are pricey but, the smaller ones are quite reasonable and have very good selections. Noticed that even the smallest of shops usually have more milsurps than the average Canadian B&M store and that the quality was generally pretty decent and the culture of "mix masters for obscene profit" is usually not present. Interestingly, also noticed that used hunting rifles were very very reasonable compared to 75-90% of retail price that they sell for here. Modern non-Euro made Rifles and Pistols were generally quite expensive tho compared to here. They seem to have a strong liking for American made goods, hence the premuim.

Sure sure but not on the mythical burst-into-flames-upon-visual-contact stuff we see get floated around these days.

As for the Tiger, isn't the quote "it took 3 Shermans to take out one Tiger, but the Allies always seemed to have 6..." Not that I'm arguing that at all we all know the tactics and equipment disparity ratios these days.

Was able to actually compare a Panther V beside a Sherman Firefly and a T34-85 all together in real llife a few years ago. Very cool. Truly amazing the technological differences.
