The Canadian National Steel Challenge Championships are returning to the BTSA Range in Kananaskis, AB, August 28/29.
Steel challenge is a speed shooting sport. There are 5 steel targets on each stage (8 stages total) with one target painted red, the stop plate. Shoot all 4 regular plates and then the stop plate. Best 4/5 attempts on most stages (3/4 on outer limits) count.
There are divisions for centerfire handguns, rimfire handguns, rimfire rifles and pcc’s, which are further broken down by equipment type.
New competitors are permitted (my first match was a national championship back in 2016) but they need to make sure they have sufficient magazines, safe handling skills, holster proficiency for Center fire pistols, etc. A black badge is not explicitly required, but is very helpful in building the skills needed to be safe and successful in steel challenge. If you are local, register for a Wednesday evening match and we can help you get sorted out!
