I wanted to shoot in the upcoming Canadian Open at Oshawa and emailed Frank as directed (from losttarget post on the sporting clays google group), just wondering if I should expect a response from him or I just show up on the weekend?

I am taking a shot in the dark and hoping someone here has some experience with this!

Thanks,

Mike

Mike Call the club tomorrow(Wednesday) and speak to Julie and explain that you've registered with Frank via email but haven't heard anything back as yet. She'll likely be able to let you know what flight you are on etc.I was hoping to shoot on the weekend as well, but due to some family commitments it's not going to happen.Had a great time last year. Best of luck on the weekend. Bust em all. Bac4

Thanks for the quick response Bac4, appreciate it. I will call Julie tomorrow...I actually just registered with NSCA this weekend and I should have my shooter # by tomorrow according to the lady I emailed after registering.

It was an NSCA registered sporting clays tournament held at Oshawa Skeet and Gun Club a few weeks ago.

I have always wondered why they call a shoot "Open"and then insist that you register with some association. In this case, why not call it the Canadian US National Sporting Clay Association Championships ?

Open is more of a designation about who may compete and win prizes. Open generally signifies anyone may enter.

If it was a Closed shoot, it may be limited to Canadian Shooters.

I know of a limited number of Closed shoots. In skeet, I believe the Texas State, and the North Carolina state shoots are Closed, and restricted to residents of that state.

Often there are Closed portions of an open shoot. Again in skeet, the New York State Open, allows shooters from everywhere. There is a closed portion of the shoot open only to New York State residents (for which they award medals and 1st/2nd/3rd prizes).

Brad.

Also, you do have the option of shooting in the hunter class and not registering with any association.
