Greetings
Is this forum still alive?

With a view to providing guidance on how to tell if a Canadian Ranger No4Mk1* is legit you should be asking for a copy of the Donation Agreement between the service member and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
I have seen several enfields advertised for sale here on CGN and the Donation Agreement was not provided.
If the seller is not able (or unwilling) to share a copy of the Donation Agreement with you then the rifle probably isn't an authentic Canadian Ranger Lee Enfield.
I don't know of any other way for you to verify if the rifle is the genuine article so I am providing a redacted copy of page two for your situational awareness.

the issue I see with that is that the paper gets tossed and the gun is sold and re-sold....ask me how I know...

I recall selling a movie repro LOTR Glamdring in display box like 10 years ago - sans COA. I only found said auth cert last year while moving. Not quite the same, but yes I did take a hit on the sale. But doesn't make the sword any less original.

Are people trying to get a premium for a Ranger-used rifle? I'm not sure that adds value, does it? The add-ons in the pic are a cool addition, but not something I'd pay any large premium for.

RC, can you give some detail on the rifle itself? Manufacture, year, FTR, etc? I take it this is your Ranger rifle?

Hi Robbs. This wasn't my issue rifle and is not connected to the donation agreement. That is an early 1942 LONG BRANCH No4Mk1* wearing 1941 furniture and some 1941 made components such as the cocking piece and ribbed trigger. The phosphate finish is excellent however the wood shows more use that the barreled receiver (in my opinion). I think someone worked on it while it was in service and not all of the numbers match. Headspace is perfect and everything is completely spec. One of the upper handguards is made of maple and the forestock is walnut. I personally removed this rifle from the cosmolene (which was extremely dry). She has a 2 groove bore and I removed an amazing amount of copper fouling using Gunslick-Pro Foaming Bore Cleaner (I still have a little bit left). This rifle might have come back from Greece or Italy but I can't say for certain. For all I know this was acquired at Simpson Sears in the 60's, stored in someone's closet and forgotten about. I don't like to take pictures of my issued rifle because it has the last three digits of my service number and surname on it. I have a photo album dedicated to this '42 rifle though on my Instagram page but I am not permitted to share the link on CGN.
