I'd like to covert my SPS Tac to a DBM as well. Not sure if anyone makes a drop-in part. Yes, it's a short action rifle.

I found this: h ttp://www.stockysstocks.com/servlet/the-473/Wyatt%27s-Outdoor-Detachable-Magazine/Detail

The houge stock doesn't take DM conversions very well.

Most of the "hard" plastic in the stock under the action has to be removed to make room.

If you want a DM "really bad" you will have to replace the houge stock.

There are quite a few site sponsors that carry various DM bottom metal upgrades for the 700SA. Most take AI mags.

Remington factory DMs are the bet bet if you are wanting to load your bullets long.

I bought my bottom metal from Jerry, I don't remember the brand. ~$200 without mag, inletting required.
For a drop in kit look at Wyatts, I think it's your only option. Northshore Barrels can supply.

Thanks guys for all the info, I could see Inletting a hogue stock to be a pain. As I want to keep it a hunting rifle and range gun secondly I am not sure what a new stock option would be .

HS precision & bell and Carlson make a nice hunting style stock. Aluminum bedding block etc., they have lots of meat to allow for a DM of any make. Both of those you see on the EE as factory Remington take offs. Usually in the $250-$350 range. Any factory wood stock would also work for a DM conversion.

In the aftermarket there are quite a few composite options available for $400 (HS & B&C) - $1000 (McMillan) in hunting styles or more if you are looking for bench type stocks. Boyd's stocks are also good if you are looking for wood, and they are usually $100(ish)+.

PTG makes drop-in bottom metal for AI mags ...IIRC

That they won't ship to Canada.

Northshore Barrels sells these.
Significant inletting is required.
Good unit.

As far as the standard Remington DBM system is concerned (the one with the pinch the two sides of the magazine to release the catches) is concerned, these only work with M700 receivers designed to use the DBM system. An ABL/BDL type receiver can be altered; milling machine is best. A non-DBM stock will require alterations.

"...considered a short action..." What action it has depends on the chambering. .308 and .223 are both short cartridges, hence the action is short too.
"...a drop-in part..." No such thing. You're completely altering the receiver.

PTG will ship to Canada as long as its under $100. I just got the SA stealth bottom metal on sale for $99 another $30 ish for shipping came USPS. Nice product, very pleased.

I have 4 ADL/BDL rifles re-jiggered with Remington factory DM kits. None of them required milling. The 700s in question range from 71 to 13, date of manufacture.....

The only DM that allows me to seat bullets long enough to touch the rifling in my 243 is the factory rem DM. The Remington DM have as much room inside the mags as the BDL or ADL magazines do...... The Kwick-Klip (only available in LA )severely limits the OAL possible for your cartridges.

For a hunting style rifle, IMHO the Rem DMs can't be beat!
