Hi,
I have recently acquired a BSA Martini .22 which appears to be a trainer rifle once issued in the Canadian forces.
It has a 25 inch barrel of relatively slim profile, a shotgun style buttstock and a slim forearm. The butt has a medallion with the numbers 6 and 9 at roughly 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock, the letters "CC" at 12 o'clock, the numbers 11 and 32 at 9 and 3 o'clock and the number 1 at 6 o'clock. Adjacent to the medallion is a broad arrow surrounded by a "C" indicating Canadian issue.
The rifle is equipped with a BSA no.8 rear sight ad a tunnel fore sight.
The firing pin is missing as is one of the trigger springs but I would like to have it repaired because it would make a great grouse and small game rifle.
Any information as to history etc would be appreciated.
Regards
Tack

Sounds like a BSA trainer picked up for the army cadets from the 30s (or earlier) until the 60s.

Based on the numbers:

#69 Cadet Corps (6 9)
Issued Nov 1932 (11 32)
Rack number 1 (1)

From this website, it sounds like that rifle would have been in use in a corps in Montreal:

They are awesome pieces of Cdn military history. Probably a great shooter too!

Hi,
The two rifles are similar however mine has no take-down screw and the forearm is shorter. Also the sling hangers on mine are attached to the barrel and the rear of the forearm. The forearm screw on your rifle, which, incidentally is in much better condition, appears different. The screw on mine does not protrude below the forearm.
Many thanks for taking the time to answer.
