I was in Sail, Ottawa today for the second time in a few months. Was looking for a 20 ga Wing. There were none to be had, I get that. BUT, the three guns they did have, Remington Express/Sportsman, they are trying to flog as Wingmasters. They swore up and down that this is what a new Wing is. The Bi-Centennial version that they had, no gloss, no gold in-lays, parkerized finish and crap action; they insisted was the best gun available and that is the new standard for Wings. So my rant is as follows:

The folks at Sail, are completely out to lunch, no wonder they sell nothing,

They are perpetuating the rumor Remington quality is a thing of the past, and

they have no respect for the knowledgeable gun owner/buyer.

If anyone can shed a light on this, I would greatly appreciate it. Do the regular Wingmasters still come north???

Yes, they still come North.

I've owned a couple newer production Wingmaters and they've been stellar (still have one). Every bit as good as the vintage ones I've had.

The 870 Express I had a few years ago left a lot to be desired.

Of course they do.
But, are there many willing to dole out nearly a grand for a WingMaster?
If I really wanted a 2016 Version and from your described experience with Sail I certainly would look for another gun store to spend some hard earned cash.

I recently bought a brand spankin new wingmaster from Bass Pro Shops, paid around $750 for it, (gotta love price matching) and it's got wingmaster stamped on the receiver. Love it!

I've seen a few new ones and they seem on par with my older 20 gauge standard weight wingmaster. I almost bought one until I picked up a new Ithaca 37. Guns like the Wingmaster and Ithaca are the reason pumps became so popular, and I hope they continue to be made for a long time.

Yes, Wingmaster's still come north - I just received (last few weeks) the 12 gauge models that I ordered back in December. The 20 gauge models have yet to show up at our wholesaler but are still showing "on order" at least for now. Last year it was almost impossible to get a Wingmaster in Canada (at least at the wholesale level - not many crossed the border).

The year before last they flogged the Rem 870 "Sportsman" and I picked up a half dozen. They are essentially an 870 Express but have a Mahogany stock with Fleur-de-Lis checkering and come with three chokes (IC, M, F) compared to the single modified choke you get with the (regular) 870 Express.
