I bought one of these from a local who wanted to keep the ammo and sell the pistol.
Trigger was the heaviest pistol I had ever felt. Measured about 10 pounds. Grouping was not bad, but difficult to value since it was so difficult to shoot.
I have limited pistol smithing skills, but can watch YouTube and try things. If I take it to Rodger Kotanko for a trigger job he would usually change some trigger parts anyway,. so it is not as though I risk anything by trying to make the trigger better.
I clipped 3 coils off the hammer spring and reduced the sear engagement a bit. Trigger is now "good", at about 5 pounds and fairly crisp.
Today I went back to the range and shot an assortment of ammo I had on hand. The mild loads shot terrible, but the hot loads did just fine.
Before the trigger job, the groups were about 4" low and left. Now elevation is perfect and groups average about 2" left. This model 1911 has what i consider a short trigger. I have medium-large hands and would prefer a longer trigger. With this one I tend to stick too much finger in the trigger guard, and this skews my groups. I will order some longer triggers. They are cheap.
These groups were shot at 25 yards. I was standing, shooting two-handed.
