I can officially confirm - Walther PDP and Canik SFx Rival share the EXACT SAME Mec Gar magazine, with different brand stamping. Everything is the same except the Walther mags have a bright orange follower and the Canik is black. But anyone that isn't blind doesn't need to see orange or black - you need to see nickel, brass, or who cares because it ain't loaded.

So if you can't find Canik mags... just buy Walther PDP mags. There are hundreds out there right now, and I feel like a fool for stressing about not being able to find the Canik ones and overpaying for the very few that I could find online.

That being said, the Walther mags are $10 more expensive than the Canik ones at several retailers! LOL. They're MEC GAR! $30-40 usually for other gun styles. Not supposed to be $60.

EDIT!
They look and fit the exact same. However, on empty magazine, the slide will not close with the Walther mag in the Canik. A tiny part of contacts the follower and prevents it from closing. Found a tiny mark on the follower.

Firearms Outlet Canada is marketing them as being directly compatible - maybe someone else can confirm this before people go spending their money on them. Looking at them from all angles, it should be the same (without breaking out micro calipers)
I'll try with different magazines as I have two of each and report.

--- 1 minute later ...

Walther can take Canik mags.... not the other way around.
Friggin' weird. The Walther mag even makes a "thunk" sound when it goes in the Canik, rather than that snappy click sound we're all used to. But they look identical... Most likely can be modded ever so slightly to be double backwards compatible, but not sure what part.

EDIT 07/30 - Read through the posts for updates on this from other members.

good info. I have walther pdp and lots of mag but not a Canik SFx. Now your post makes me think I should get a Canik to utilize my spare mags :)

Absolutely get the Rival if you can find one in stock. Last I saw, Marstar was stocking the black ones and I think Wolverine and IRG have the grey/gold ones. Grip texture isn't as grippy as the Walther, but every other part looks and feels better. Trigger is on another planet compared to the Walther PDT trigger, which until this point is the best one I've tried as a factory stock trigger. (haven't tried the Dynamic upgrade one)

Just to clarify, do the Canik mags fit in the full size frame PDP or are you saying they fit the PDP compact frame?

The PPQ M2 mags are the same as the PDP compact mags from what I’ve been reading. But the PDP full size frame is half an inch longer and won’t take compact sized mags.

You can also do a slight modification on Sig P226 mags and they will work in the Canik, there are vids on YouTube if you happen to have a schwack of 226 mags

Full size for full size. Compact anything will never fit in full size anything. Can't speak to cross-brand fit for full size Canik to compact size Walther.

Definitely not what he asked, he Clarified the compact mags being the same as ppq, he asking if canik mags if they work would be considered full size or compact in comparison to PDP mags.

Just tried a P226 mag in the Canik and can't recommend any mods or anything to make that work. The P226 mag fits, although more snug than you'd want. Have to push it in there, although not really forcefully. Slide locks back when ejecting a chambered snap cap but doesn't close back in on it's own to chamber the next one, although will close when you release the slide lock and fire fine.

I have a PDP and a plain Jane tan TP9. I’ve used the Canik mags in my PDP without issue. However, the (empty) PDP mags don’t work in the Canik. The slide appears to drag hard across the follower and then not lock up properly. I haven’t tried a loaded mag yet because of that issue.
Yeah that's what I found as well.
I guess this is a +1 to the Walther over the Canik... but that's the only +1 I'd give it. The Rival is super sweet and the trigger oh man.... wish I'd bought another one in grey :p

I have used multiple Canik TP9 mags in a PDP without any issues. There is a caveat to this statement.

They are not 100% identical. There re is a small but important physical difference in the mags for anyone putting them in a PDP to be aware of.

Walther mags have a small notch in at the top left hand side rear corner of the mag. The reason for this to prevent the mag from damaging the ejector if over seated / jammed in. A Canik TP9 mag can and will contact the ejector in a PDP if slammed hard into the gun, causing the PDP's ejector to be bent upwards. A bent ejector will contact and drag along the bottom of the slide during recoil causing more damage and jams.

If you hold the mags up side by side with the rear of the mag facing yourself you will see the notch in a Walther mag is not present on a Canik mag.

I used a dremel to put a notch in the Canik mags and they run 100%.

Good thing I picked up some extra PDP mags, then!
