Just got my restricted, time to start shopping. Looking at a 9mm for my first purchase. Looking at different versions on the TP9. Any opinions? I was thinking the sfx/sf/sa. Id like to save some cash and go the SA route?

Never tried the SFX/SF, but I have shot the SA numerous times and it is a fantastic pistol for the money, reliable, accurate and overall a very nice pistol, I can't imagine the other models would be any less. The main problem I see with them is lack of parts availability etc. Can I ask why the Canik? If it's just a personal preference and you love the look then it's a good choice for you, but honestly you are in the same price range as an M&P and the aftermarket support for the M&P is just vastly superior to the Canik, just my thoughts, why limit parts when you don't have to, especially with a first handgun. Believe me, it's pretty frustrating when you want/need something and can't get it :(

I was pretty impressed with the canik reviews online, like the look of em and the local shop pushes M&Ps big time. I like being different lol.

I am thinking buy a canik now and something more high end next summer.

Not a bad plan at all, the Canik has a very nice trigger and personally I think they look awesome, particularly the tan model. There is also not a damn thing wrong with being different lol, my first was an FNS9LS, also not a particularly common handgun but I still love that gun to this day,,,even though I became a Glock guy along the way hahaha

Trigger is great on my SF - the SA has the decocker mounted on the slide. It wasn't popular in the US because of carry concerns (the idea it could become decocked and you not notice until you need to defend yourself). That's not an issue for Canadians IMO.

I do like the idea of mounting a red dot - and there's a new version (coming? - I think?) with a RDS ready slide. I'd probably have bought that just for the option, but the SF is great value IMO.

The SFX has an optic on it. I am 75, with cataracts, so an optic is a big help.

It has an excellent trigger (unlike Glock and MP9).

The standard model seems to have the same excellent trigger, and I use it when shooting a match without optics.

Most of the standard models I have tried also had the excellent trigger, but one fellow got one with a crappy 9 pound pull.

If you buy a standard, try the trigger first and make sure it is light and crisp.

I have over 20 different 9mm pistols, so it is an endorsement when I say the Canik is best.

my dad picked up a SFX and i got to shoot it last summer and i was super impressed with how much gun you get for the price.
really nice trigger right out of the box as well.

really anything your gonna do to any other pistol as far as add on's has already been done to the SFX.
slide has been milled to lighten.
extended base pads on the magazines.
slide ready for optics.
trigger is already tuned up.
fiber optic front sights.
nice texture so no need to have it stippled.
extended mag release.

really anything you could ever think to do to your pistol is already done for ya.
and they are super nice to shoot.

SFX is best bang for the buck.

The only negative is you have to watch strong side thumb placement as you can trigger the slide drop on last round of empty mag. I had to modify my grip so this didn't happen.

Otherwise it never FTF or FTE, have Burris FF2 mounted and easily hit steel out to 50 yards.

Out of all my handguns, the Canik TP9SA, was the buy of the century. Fantastic feel and flawless operation. The trigger, being very incredible is very compatible to those out of guns twice the price, which an absolute joy to shoot ! LOVE THAT GUN !!! Money very well spent ! IMHO

I went with the elite combat over the sfx due to the aftermarket barrel and i like solid colors better.

Sounds like Canik doesnt make to many duds. I dont think ive seen any bad reviews yet. Just the odd trigger issue.
