I have one of the M305 shorty mods from m14doctor.

I have a Magpul PRS but even with the cheek riser on the lowest setting I can't get low enough to actually see through the sights with the rear sight at its lowest position. If I look through the rear sight I see the base of the front sight. I'm guessing this is because the stock no longer curves down. I plan to put an optic on it but it would be nice if there was a way to fix this. Do they make raised sights? What are my options for dealing with this?

100 yard zero I was told should be 10-12 clicks from bottom and the new factory shortys come with taller front sights maybe you can get one of them .
A rifle with a 18.5 barrel needs a taller front sight than the same one with a 22 inch barrel.

Scope it. That's what cheek risers are for. They're not used with iron sights. Don't know of any high aftermarket rear sights for M1A/M305's.

Order a springfield bush rifle front sight direct from SAI. It's what I recommend on the shorty mod rifles. Especially those in the the stocks I've made
The cqb stocks are better suited for a red dot optic however.

No, I just been busy playin in tha snow. Haven't had much time for internettin. Gawddamn awesome icefishin right now thhough let me tell ya ;)

Hope ya ain't freezin' to the ice out there Thomas!!

Winter is my favorite time of year :) huntin wolves and ice fishin is pretty much all I've been doing since new years Hehehe. Have a couple builds and a couple cranky rifles here I've been workin on for a few guys as well.

As for the cheekweld on thhe CQB stocks... I have little trouble using the irons on mine but I'll admit, the buffer tube position on those stocks is not "ideal" for factory irons at close range. The assumption was that most guys building up a CQB rig with an M14/M1A action, would be running a CQB type optic

Ah, thanks for the info. Seems more complicated than just buying and optic; I just don't have the money for one now and I still need to put something on it to mount the sight. Haven't decided on the type of mount yet.
