Can't find primers in Calgary

I'm new to reloading shells, just started this year. And shooting a shotgun for that matter. My first purchase was three sleeves of a 100 each thinking this would get me going for a while. At 25, just a box, a round of trap at the range, it was a short while. Think of bricks, 1000, in the same terms as rifle flats, 100. And , yes, at $120 a thousand they are expensive. As far as brand, beggars can't be choosers.

If you Google Cheddite primers, you will find long discussions on primer interchangeability on Shotgun World Forum or Trapshooters Forum. French made Cheddites are the standard primer, now BTW.

Try finding small pistol primers

I’ve been looking for SPP for months, down to my last 800 primers. Never seen it so bad.

Just bought another 1000 today... granted they were SP Magnum primers, but them there internets say they should work fine for 9mm so long as I work up the load accordingly. I went with a buddy today to the big city and stopped along the way, something to be said for small town gun stores without a website for finding stock. Also bought powder while there

Primers are around but you have to buy when you see them otherwise someone else will. I have found more through local people than stores in the past year. I bought even if I didn’t need them. Small rifle primers I bought thinking I could possibly trade down the road for primers I want. Probably going to put them up on EE and GP by end of day.

Looking for #209 shotgun primers. Tried Cabalas, Bass Pro and Pro line. Any suggestions??

Randomly see them here and there, buy them when I can. As mentioned below, beggars cant be choosers.

If $120 for 1000 primers is considered expensive, shooting sports may not be the best choice. Just saying, this is not a thrifty sport or hobby. I routinely expend 100-150 rounds at the clays range on a given trip, sometimes twice a week. Or 100-200 rounds of handgun ammo at the indoor ranges. Pay to play.

SP mag primers are the same primer as the standard small
rifle primer according to CCI

The important difference between pistol primers and rifle primers is the strength of the cup. While rifle primers could be used in pistol cases, it would not be a good idea to use pistol primers in a rifle case.
